Amazon has teamed up with OpenAI to allow advertisers to extend their campaigns from Amazon's Demand-Side Platform (DSP) into ChatGPT, providing brands with a new avenue to access the chatbot's expanding advertising space. This pilot program, currently limited to U.S. advertisers, will see Delta Vacations among the first participants. The integration allows advertisers to manage their campaigns without directly interfacing with OpenAI, linking a major digital advertising platform with a novel conversational ad medium. Advertisers can purchase ChatGPT ad inventory on a cost-per-click or CPM basis, with Amazon also facilitating product feed ads that generate promotional content from advertisers' catalogs. These ads will be displayed as text and image units below organic responses in ChatGPT, marked as sponsored content. Importantly, while Amazon handles the purchasing and campaign management, OpenAI retains control over ad placement and delivery. Advertisers involved in the pilot will receive consolidated performance metrics, including impressions and click-through rates. This partnership not only grants OpenAI access to Amazon's extensive advertiser network but may also attract non-endemic brands that utilize Amazon DSP for audience engagement. Future developments will reveal whether this collaboration expands beyond the U.S. pilot and the level of interest it generates among advertisers.
