DDoS Protection Firm Linked to Attacks on Brazilian ISPs

A Brazilian technology firm known for its DDoS mitigation services has reportedly been implicated in a series of extensive DDoS attacks against local internet service providers (ISPs). The CEO of the firm claims that these attacks stemmed from a security breach, potentially orchestrated by a rival aiming to damage the company's reputation. Over recent years, security analysts have observed significant DDoS incidents originating from Brazil, primarily affecting Brazilian ISPs. The situation escalated when an anonymous source revealed a file archive containing malicious Python scripts and SSH keys belonging to the CEO of Huge Networks, a company that focuses on DDoS protection. The exposed data indicates that a threat actor gained unauthorized access to Huge Networks' infrastructure and developed a botnet by exploiting vulnerabilities in unsecured routers and DNS servers. The malicious scripts targeted specific Brazilian IP addresses, executing attacks for brief periods before shifting to new targets. Despite the evidence, the CEO insists that his company is not involved in orchestrating these attacks and attributes the breach to a previous incident that compromised internal servers. He claims to have taken immediate action to secure the company’s systems and is currently working with a forensics team to investigate the matter further.
