The FBI, in collaboration with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), has reiterated its alert regarding Russian intelligence operatives engaging in phishing schemes aimed at Signal users. The updated warning highlights a new tactic employed by these hackers: they are now persuading victims to disclose their Signal Backup Recovery Keys. This key is crucial because once it is shared, attackers can access the user's backup, allowing them to view both private and group messages. This poses a significant risk as the compromised key remains valid indefinitely, enabling ongoing access to the account. Users are urged to exercise caution and safeguard their recovery keys to prevent unauthorized access.
