Global Operation Disrupts Cybercrime Network

A collaborative initiative involving global law enforcement and technology firms has successfully disrupted a cybercrime network that has been responsible for the theft of millions of login credentials and over $47 million in ransom payments. This operation focused on two distinct but widely used tools in various online fraud schemes. The first, Amadey, is a malware-as-a-service platform that has been active since at least 2018, facilitating the compromise of devices and the deployment of malicious software. Last year, it was noted for exploiting GitHub to gather system data from infected machines. The second tool, StealC, operates as an infostealer-as-a-service, targeting credentials, authentication cookies, cryptocurrency wallets, and files based on user-defined criteria. Although these tools function independently, many cybercriminals utilize both in their operations, relying on shared infrastructure. Microsoft utilized AI to analyze these tools, leading to a legal action that effectively disrupted both simultaneously.
