Instagram has rolled out an update to its Your Algorithm feature, now available for the main feed. This enhancement enables users to influence the types of content they see across Feed, Reels, and Explore by managing their interests more directly. Initially launched for Reels in December, the feature now extends to the main feed, where users will find a greater proportion of suggested posts from accounts they do not follow.

Upon starting, users will see a list of topics generated based on their previous interactions. They can modify this list by removing unwanted topics and adding those they wish to see more frequently. Instagram's head, Adam Mosseri, emphasized that this update aims to give users more control over their experience, addressing concerns about the lack of influence in recommendation-driven feeds.

With advancements in language processing, Instagram can now present content categories in a more understandable manner, allowing users to better articulate their preferences. This shift from follower-centric feeds to interest-based discovery highlights the platform's commitment to prioritizing user engagement over mere follower counts. Future updates will introduce additional controls related to people, moods, and content types, further enhancing user customization.
