Microsoft Addresses Nearly 1,000 Security Vulnerabilities

Microsoft Corp. has released a substantial update addressing 974 security vulnerabilities across its Windows operating systems and other software, setting a new record for the company. This month’s Patch Tuesday surpasses the previous high of 570 vulnerabilities patched in July, bringing the total for this year to over 2,600—more than double the previous record set in 2020. Among the critical flaws fixed are two zero-day vulnerabilities, CVE-2026-81963 and CVE-2026-85880, which allow attackers to gain elevated privileges on Windows systems. Additionally, 113 of the patched vulnerabilities received a critical rating, indicating a high risk of exploitation. Notably, CVE-2026-69730, a DNS vulnerability, and CVE-2026-69829, a remote code execution flaw in Windows Shell, are particularly concerning. As Microsoft and other tech companies increasingly utilize AI to enhance their patching processes, experts emphasize the need for organizations to prioritize testing and deployment of these updates to mitigate risks effectively.
