His involvement in a series of phishing attacks during the summer of 2022 enabled the group to infiltrate numerous major tech firms, resulting in the theft of millions in cryptocurrency. Once recognized in the hacking community under the alias 'Tylerb,' Buchanan is currently in U.S. custody and faces a potential prison sentence exceeding 20 years. The group is notorious for employing social engineering tactics to manipulate employees and gain unauthorized access to sensitive data. Buchanan's guilty plea includes acknowledgment of his participation in extensive SMS phishing campaigns that targeted companies like Twilio and LastPass. The stolen data facilitated SIM-swapping attacks, leading to significant financial losses for individual cryptocurrency investors. Investigators traced Buchanan's activities back to specific phishing domains linked to his online accounts. His arrest followed a series of threats from rival hackers, prompting his flight from the U.K. He was apprehended in Spain in June 2024 and extradited to the U.S. His sentencing is set for August 2026.
