The Atlantic Launches Searchable Music Database for AI Training

The Atlantic's Alex Reisner has recently unveiled a comprehensive searchable database featuring four distinct music datasets employed in the training of artificial intelligence models. Among these, two datasets stand out due to their vast size, containing 12 million and 9 million tracks respectively. The remaining two datasets, while smaller, still contribute significantly with over 100,000 songs each. Reisner notes that these datasets have been downloaded extensively, although the exact number of users remains uncertain. Notably, major players like Google and Stability have acknowledged their use of these datasets in various research publications. Some datasets, such as the Free Music Archive, are available for personal streaming, but restrictions apply for commercial use. This initiative aims to enhance transparency regarding the music utilized in AI training processes.
