TikTok's AI Advertising Policy Faces Challenges

Concerns arise as companies like Samsung fail to label AI-generated ads on TikTok, leaving users in the dark.

Many users, including myself, have found it difficult to determine whether the advertisements on TikTok are created using generative AI technologies. Despite my efforts to identify signs of synthetic content, I have often encountered ads that raise questions without any clear indication of their origins. For an extended period, I noticed a lack of AI disclosure labels on various promotional videos, which are supposed to be mandated by TikTok's advertising guidelines. This absence of transparency is frustrating, as it suggests that there are individuals who are aware of the content's AI-generated status but choose not to disclose it to the audience. Companies, such as Samsung, that advocate for AI labeling in their marketing strategies seem to be falling short in this regard, leaving consumers without the necessary information to make informed judgments about the ads they encounter.
