In recent months, innovative tools like OpenClaw have demonstrated the capabilities of tech-savvy users who deploy multiple AI agents for various tasks. However, this convenience can lead to significant challenges for online service providers, as they face overwhelming numbers of requests resembling Sybil attacks from these agents. To tackle this issue, the identity-focused startup World has unveiled its 'proof of human' technology, World ID. This new initiative includes the launch of Agent Kit, which allows users to verify that they are in control of their AI agents, while also enabling websites to restrict access to these agents to ensure they are operated by real individuals. If the name World sounds familiar, it is likely due to its association with WorldCoin, a cryptocurrency project founded by Sam Altman in 2023, which offered free tokens to users who scanned their irises using a physical device. Although WorldCoin continues to exist, its value has significantly decreased since its initial highs. The company has now shifted its focus to World ID, leveraging the same iris-scanning technology to create a secure, unique digital identity token that users can store on their devices.
