YouTube is set to enhance its AI-driven likeness detection tool, making it available to all adult users. This initiative allows individuals aged 18 and older to utilize the platform's capabilities to identify potential deepfake content featuring their likeness. The detection system operates by scanning a user’s face through a selfie-style image, searching for similar appearances across the platform. When a match is found, YouTube notifies the user, who can then choose to request the removal of the infringing content. Historically, YouTube has indicated that the volume of removal requests has been relatively low. Initially, this feature was trialed with content creators before being extended to public figures, including politicians and journalists. The move aims to empower users to protect their digital identities more effectively.
